The iChat and Photo Booth video effects community

Jon has posted some great new effects in the archive. Check them out!

QuartzFX.com is back on the air after a server failure. My apologies for the downtime. I had to restore from a database backup, so some new forum posts or effects may be missing.

Take a look at the new effects archive. Anyone can sign up and and showcase their own effects. Head over there, download what you like and put it in /library/compositions/ It will become available in the effects panel of iChat. Photo Booth requires effects to be added in multiples of 8.

The guys over at ismileys.free.fr have put together a package of 24 additional effects for iChat and Photo Booth.  Download them here.

Check out the release candidates thread. Thanks everyone who is contributing. The effects look amazing!

Linked below is a template for creating your own ‘Backdrop’ iChat or Photo Booth effects.  This is the one to use if you want to work on hologram type effects, or effects that only modify the foreground or background of an image.
Make some cool effects and upload them to the forums!

I’ve created a template to make it easy to start building Quartz Composer video effects. If you don’t have it, Quartz Composer comes with the developer tools on your Mac OS X install disk.
Download the template below and open it in Quartz Composer. You will see instructions on how to begin in the blue note box. It is very important to delete the Video Input patch before trying your creation in iChat or Photo Booth, as it is only for previewing your effect in Quartz Composer.

I modified the ‘Fire Drips’ example that comes with the developer tools to make it compatible with iChat. Download it Here: Fire Drips, then place it in /Library/Compositions/ Restart iChat, and you should see it in your effects panel.
